Welcome to the 1st in a series of deep dive interviews, in which we sit down with various talent, professionals, and people of interest to dive deep under the surface of the average interview. Here on episode 001 we had the opportunity to speak with Hip Hop recording artist Rakim Al-Jabbaar.
Recorded in beautiful Ponchaveli Gallery in Richardson Tx, this space is celebrating its grand opening event Art Power Respect on September 29th. Check the details here.
Rakim has garnered a lot of attention in his short run. He has already been covered by most of the major publications in his home city of Dallas, from the Dallas Morning News, Guide Live, D Magazine, to the Dallas Observer. He has been interviewed quiet extensively by great journalist like Down Burkes, Eazy Eddie D, KiKi J, J Kruz, Douglas Elliot, Markus Kelly and Rodrick’s Logic. All who have done a great job of detailing his unique story and development into an artist. For those reasons and more we appreciate the opportunity to talk about his craft and we encourage you to check out his music.
There are just a few things to know going into the interview. First, Rakim is the son of Texas legend Big Al from the group Nemesis, who’s 1991 album Munchies For Your Bass rode the charts for an entire year; peaking on the Top 200.
Second, he has a new EP (which I constantly refer to as an album during the interview, oops) that just dropped called FIREBIRD, which he will be performing in its entirety at the A-TEAM’s Final Fridays Hip Hop showcase, on September 28th, 2018.
